{"id":13,"date":"2014-05-01T17:34:39","date_gmt":"2014-05-01T17:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.sycks.net\/?p=13"},"modified":"2014-05-01T19:51:39","modified_gmt":"2014-05-01T19:51:39","slug":"13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.sycks.net\/?p=13","title":{"rendered":"Netflix loses 1800+ titles as Warner Brothers pulls content"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You may have noticed that your <a title=\"Netflix\" href=\"http:\/\/www.netflix.com\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix <\/a>subscription is lacking a bunch of titles today that were there yesterday. \u00a0This is because a ton of content is being pulled by Warner Brothers own streaming service, <a title=\"Warner Brothers Instant Archive\" href=\"http:\/\/instant.warnerarchive.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Warner Brothers Instant Archive<\/a>, a service that offers their content for 9.99\/month after a two week free trial. \u00a0The best part is that they went ahead and launched the service without getting an app onto Apple TV (much less apps for android or iPhone), so for those of us who like to watch TV on, say, our televisions, we get to lose access to this content until someone at Warner Brothers takes some initiative and pushes apps out there. \u00a0Way to go!<\/p>\n<p>Some popular TV shows that will no longer be on Netflix are Parks and Recreation, The Office, Scrubs, Bones, Gossip Girl, Frasier, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias,\u00a0as well as some decent children&#8217;s programming including Caillou and Curious George, and roughly 1,790 others. \u00a0It seems like most of the casualties are from NBC, with FOX, CBS, and ABC appearing to have a large amount of their content\u00a0still\u00a0available on the popular video streaming website.<\/p>\n<p>As a consumer, I know how I feel about this: \u00a0I hate it.<\/p>\n<p>Certainly Warner Brothers has a right to decide how their content is viewed and it&#8217;s not like I&#8217;m bound by contract to remain a Netflix subscriber, but this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. \u00a0If these video streaming services are supposed to offer superior content delivery with a better interface, why not just keep things\u00a0in the same place and let Netflix users subscribe to different levels of streaming packages if these studios really want more money?<\/p>\n<p>If I want to watch all of my favorite series and avoid the hours of commercials being shoved down my throat on cable, I can now subscribe to <a title=\"Netflix\" href=\"http:\/\/www.netflix.com\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix<\/a>, <a title=\"Hulu Plus\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huluplus.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hulu Plus<\/a>\u00a0(with limited commercials), <a title=\"Warner Brothers Inconvenient Archive\" href=\"http:\/\/instant.warnerarchive.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Warner Brothers Instant Archive<\/a>\u00a0(no idea if they have commercials), <a title=\"Amazon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon Instant Video<\/a>, and whatever else&#8230; \u00a0 I would probably still come out ahead on price using all of these services over the equivalent channel packages on cable TV, but only until these content producers figure out how to squeeze even more money out of us.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I should just go outside and take a lot of walks until <a title=\"Hurwitz Inks Multi-Year Deal with Netflix\" href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2014\/04\/mitch-hurwitz-to-create-new-series-for-netflix-under-multi-year-deal\/\">Mitch Hurwitz produces more original content for Netflix<\/a> in the hopefully not too distant future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You may have noticed that your Netflix subscription is lacking a bunch of titles today that were there yesterday. \u00a0This is because a ton of content is being pulled by Warner Brothers own streaming service, Warner Brothers Instant Archive, a service that offers their content for 9.99\/month after a two week free trial. \u00a0The best &hellip;
