{"id":26,"date":"2014-05-03T01:23:54","date_gmt":"2014-05-03T01:23:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.sycks.net\/?p=26"},"modified":"2014-05-03T01:27:57","modified_gmt":"2014-05-03T01:27:57","slug":"in-the-spirit-of-fairness-the-netflix-1800","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.sycks.net\/?p=26","title":{"rendered":"In the spirit of fairness:  The Netflix 1800"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While I probably should have found <a title=\"The Verge - Netflix Losing 1800 Titles 5-01-2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2013\/4\/30\/4287902\/netflix-losing-almost-1800-titles-from-its-streaming-library-starting-tomorrow\" target=\"_blank\">this <\/a>in my search for sources when I wrote yesterday, I&#8217;ll chalk this one up to being rusty behind the wheel of a blog.<\/p>\n<p>It looks like there is a lot more going on with the titles being removed from Netflix, and oddly enough, many of the titles that I could not access yesterday (May 1st) appear to have returned.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the meat of what The Verge had to say about the roughly 1800 titles that Nexflix is losing:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">&#8230;the service will be saying farewell to 1,794 different titles in May. That number includes 15 seasons of\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"color: #333333;\">South Park<\/i><span style=\"color: #333333;\">, old horror movies like\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"color: #333333;\">Audrey Rose<\/i><span style=\"color: #333333;\">, and James Bond classics like\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"color: #333333;\">Dr. No<\/i><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"color: #333333;\">Goldfinger<\/i><span style=\"color: #333333;\">.\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #fb4834;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/browbeat\/2013\/04\/30\/netflix_queue_to_become_netflix_list_maybe_also_many_movies_no_longer_streaming.html\" target=\"_blank\">According to\u00a0<i>Slate<\/i><\/a><span style=\"color: #333333;\">, the drop comes because several licensing deals Netflix has in place with studios like MGM, Warner Bros., and Universal are expiring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">While it has been posited that the titles were disappearing because they were heading to the\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #fb4834;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2013\/4\/2\/4173820\/warner-archive-instant-streams-a-small-lineup-of-classic-films\">Warner Instant Archive streaming service<\/a><span style=\"color: #333333;\">, that appears to not be the case. Warner Instant\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #fb4834;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WarnerArchive\/status\/329370905438478336\" target=\"_blank\">took to Twitter today<\/a><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0to emphasize that&#8230; &#8230;it [does] not carry titles from MGM or Universal&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">With that said, it looks like I&#8217;m off in search of some other minor conspiracy theory. \u00a0Good day to you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">-z<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While I probably should have found this in my search for sources when I wrote yesterday, I&#8217;ll chalk this one up to being rusty behind the wheel of a blog.
